(1942–) a US writer whose novels include
The World According to Garp and
The Cider House Rules. Both books have been made into successful films, and Irving won an Oscar for his
screenplay of The Cider House Rules. His books typically involve many stories happening at the same time.

Rip van Winkle, about a man who falls asleep for 20 years, and
