Before he became President, he was in charge of his family's peanut business and was the governor of the US state of Georgia. Carter is known for being a religious person and for doing a lot of charity work. Since 1981 he has been involved in efforts to try to end wars in other countries. In 2002 he won the Nobel Peace Prize.
